How Do Same-Day Dentures Work?

woman holding denturesWith same-day dentures, you can receive a functional and fully customized set of dentures within a single day. In many cases, patients may come in to have one or more teeth extracted, and the dentures are fashioned during their treatment using impressions taken beforehand. The dentures are crafted in our in-house dental lab, and our dentist can make adjustments to ensure the best fit.

In most standard denture treatment, you may have to wait for weeks or even months to receive a custom denture from a dental lab. This process allows you to restore your smile right away, so you don’t have to spend any time without teeth.

Am I a Candidate for Same-Day Dentures?

First, our dentist will need to evaluate your situation to determine whether dentures are the best solution for you compared to other treatment options. He takes the time to discuss your needs, goals, and oral health, which he always factors into his recommendations. If you have several teeth that would need replacing, dentures are often a good fit.

What Types of Dentures Do You Offer?

We specialize in providing dentures for patients who need to replace teeth and use our decades of experience to help make them as comfortable, functional, and high-quality as we can. Our practice delivers a wide variety of dentures to our patients, including:

Full Dentures: These dentures are for patients who have no remaining teeth, or with very few teeth that they choose to have extracted. Complete dentures replace an entire arch of teeth, and a set can replace all teeth. They are held in place by suction, dental adhesive, or a combination of the two. Our dentures are designed to look and feel lifelike, providing a reliable and confident smile.

Provisional Partial Dentures: Also called temporary partial dentures, these are for patients who want a temporary denture solution for their missing teeth. These are useful in cases where they’ve just had teeth extracted, and the bite will change later on, requiring a new denture. They can also be used when someone is planning to get dental implants and wants something to help them speak, bite, and chew in the meantime.

Implant-Supported Dentures: Our office can cover the entire dental implant process in-house, from extraction to implant placement and securing restorations. Dr. Erhard can carefully and accurately design the dentures to match the placement of implants, ensuring a strong, stable, and comfortable fit.

Both full dentures and provisional partials are available with same-day treatment. Some denture types, such as acrylic partial dentures and flexible partial dentures, are more complex and require specialized materials. For these types, we rely on a trusted outside dental lab to create and deliver high-quality customized dentures made according to Dr. Erhard’s design.

Are Dentures Affordable?

At One Day Denture Service of Lansing, we believe that all patients deserve to have a smile they can rely on and feel good about. We strive to make treatment affordable and accessible for our patients and offer a variety of denture options so that you can choose the one that best fits your needs and budget. Our in-house service allows us to control cost more effectively, a benefit that we can then pass on to you.

Caring for Your New Dentures

Once you have your dentures, you’ll want to be sure that they last as long as possible. Here are a few simple steps you can take to keep your dentures in great shape:

  • Clean your dentures every day. Brush them once a day (with water and not toothpaste) and always rinse them after you eat.
  • Wash your dentures gently with a soft-bristled brush specifically made for dentures. Hard brushing can leave tiny scratches in the denture where bacteria can gather.
  • Place a soft towel in the sink or on the counter when cleaning your dentures. This will cushion them and reduce the chances of breaking.
  • Never use hot water on your dentures, and never put them in the dishwasher. This could warp them, and they will no longer fit well.
  • If your dentures are damaged or no longer fit well, visit our office for maintenance. Do not try to repair them yourself.

Can I Wear My Dentures to Sleep?

While there aren’t any problems with wearing your dentures to bed once in a while, it’s not something we recommend doing often. Wearing your dentures for long periods can be hard on your gums and jawbone, and removing them at night allows your mouth to rest. It’s also a great time to let your dentures soak in a cleaning solution, removing bacteria and other unpleasant substances. This will help your dentures last longer and promote better oral health for you.
